This is a one-year course in World History designed just for the homeschooler. The course consists of 2 semesters of 14 lessons per semester. There are 2 levels: high school and middle school. Each level is designed to introduce the homeschooling student to social, political and artistic events of the major eras in world history. Each week for one-hour, the student will be exposed to a virtual experience of time travel as they learn by lectures, videos, ancient music, and drawing lessons, as well as weekly reading assignments. Included are sample reproductions of ancient coins, sculptures, and sample food groups from ancient times (via the live portion of the lesson), as well as timed crafts throughout the year. The student will create their own family history timeline at the end of the second semester to show how they are part of history. An experience they will not forget.
All classes start at the beginning of the traditional school year and end in late spring. In addition, I am available on an hourly basis to give families extra reading and writing assignments should the student need it for this class.* I am also able to assign/review extra homework. All classes are online via Skype. Student must have a good internet connection and Skype account for the teacher to call the student every week.
*Not part of the tuition and needs to be arranged separately. Please call for more information.
All major holidays are taken off, which includes: Christmas and New Years (2 weeks off), Thanksgiving (1 week off) and Easter (2 weeks off). Please arrange ahead of time any vacation days off, as this class cannot be made up and there are no refunds for time missed. The student will be given a list of breaks at signup. I strive to incorporate holiday-themed crafts during this time. For example, the week before Christmas, the student will work on a craft to illustrate the medieval art of the Middle Ages. All crafts will be timed to correspond with the timeline we are studying.
(Supplies not provided and purchased by student separately)
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We will be using Holt McDougal World History: Patterns of Interaction. (Please see book photo below). The book you purchase must have the same photo on it as the class book. There are many versions of this book around so please make sure you purchase the correct one.
My class is affiliated with Excellence In Education (PSP) in Monrovia, CA. Every student that is signed up with EIE under their PSP will be given credit. If you are not signed up with EIE, I cannot assign credit but the student will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the class.
Each student will be emailed a list of supplies they will need to participate in the craft portion of the class. 4 per semester. The book is listed below and can be purchased at Amazon, eBay, or any school bookstore carrying textbooks. We will be using an earlier version of the book to cut the cost. The lessons will be aligned with state standards, however, I make all my classes fun and engaging to help each student grasp the enormous facts in world history. This is an introduction class meant to be enjoyable while learning fundamental knowledge and facts presented in a creative and hands-on way.

"I was fortunate to be able to homeschool my daughter for the entirety of her elementary and high school years. In that time, I was able to see what worked and what didn't. My educational philosophy was born of this experience. I learned to love and appreciate the Waldorf Method. Incorporating the Whole Child's interest. I used art as the launching point in all the subjects I taught. I saw how my daughter lit up at every lesson knowing she could express herself and her understanding using the medium of art. It is for this reason that I incorporated it across all of my lessons. I have never met a student that doesn't appreciate this method."
*Quote:
“Educating the 'whole child', meant appealing to student's internal motivation, educating them socially and morally as well as academically, and using art, nature and movement to bring both inspiration and relevancy to learning..." -Rudolf Steiner

Join me every summer when I host a workshop for kids ages 8 to 14. We will learn about math concepts by studying Nature! Using basic knowledge about numbers and the Fibonacci sequence, the students will explore patterns in nature to connect their world to math! This is a great class for elementary students who are still grasping the way mathematics runs our world and universe. A 6-8 week workshop. Available online due to Covid-19 restrictions or until it is safe in-person. Crafts for this workshop will be purchased by the student as online classes do not permit the teacher to offer craft supplies in person. All paper instructions will be emailed to the student every week and a list of all the craft supplies will be emailed upon signing up for this class.
